Russia Ukraine War Latest News: What Happened in Volgograd?
This morning, the Ukrainian military targeted the Titan Barikady military plant in the Krasnooktyabrsky district of Russia’s Volgograd region. 11 people were wounded and rushed to a hospital and one factory worker was killed. Russian authorities are currently inspecting the extent of the damage.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Russian Authorities Share Update About Volgograd Attack
Andrei Bocharov, the governor of Volgograd confirmed the “air attacks during the night and morning” at the military plant. He shared “The air defense forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation have repelled during the night and morning a terrorist attack with high-speed aerial targets from the criminal regime of Kyiv against the territory of the Volgograd region… For the moment, eleven injured are reported”.
Bocharov also reassured that all the injured people are ‘out of danger’ and extended his condolences to the family members of the late factory worker.
Zelensky’s Update on ‘Flamingo Missiles’
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the Volgograd attack and hailed the ‘flamingo missiles’ for successfully striking the Titan Barikady military plant.
According to him, the plant “is a major industrial complex where the enemy produces artillery systems and specialized military equipment, including components for missile launch systems used in attacks against our people”. He proclaimed that “Every Russian defense facility that serves the war against Ukraine is just a target for Russia’s long range sanctions”.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Is Moscow the Next Target?
According to Zelensky, his forces are now shifting focus to Russia’s capital city of Moscow and the city of Valdai, where Putin maintains a residence.
“In the Moscow region alone, they have amassed hundreds of launchers” for air defense missiles, Zelenskyy said. “Nearly 90 launchers have been redeployed to Valdai from other regions of Russia.”
It is important to note that Russian president Vladimir Putin and Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko met at the former’s Valdai residence recently. Tensions between the three neighbouring countries have intensified with Kyiv becoming increasingly wary of Minsk.
Zelensky’s Plea for Putin: ‘Take That Step Toward Peace’
Despite launching a new military strategy against Moscow, Kyiv remains open to peace. In fact, Zelensky even made a new plea to his Russian counterpart today.
“Russia must get out of Ukraine with its war – we want no war. Ukraine has put forward proposals to our key partners, and Putin’s friends have also heard from us that a meeting is possible and that ending this war is possible. Russia must now take that step toward peace”, Zelensky said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Is Putin Open to Peace Talks?
Previously, Russia wanted to continue the ongoing war with Ukraine. But now the situation seems to have reversed. In a press address earlier this week, Putin said “Russia, as has been stated repeatedly, is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine”.
He then added that “It is ready to proceed on the basis of the agreements reached back in Istanbul – agreements which, I would remind you, were initiated at the time by the Ukrainian delegation”. With both countries now open and willing, the door for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine could reopen.
