Bill Cassidy, the incumbent Republican senator from Louisiana recently slammed US President Donald Trump in a talk show appearance. Cassidy accused Trump of treating the Congress as ‘merely an appendage’, especially with regards to the Iran war. According to him, Trump behaves “as if Congress is merely an appendage, and frankly, sometimes Congress acts like it’s an appendage”.

According to multiple reports, Bill Cassidy and Donald Trump got into an intense closed-door screaming match during a Senate GOP lunch on 24th June, 2026. During their explosive argument, Cassidy accused the president of not being transparent enough about the fallout of the Iran war.
During his talk show appearance, Cassidy also spoke about that explosive argument, stating that his ‘Irish temper’ got the better of him during that moment. He also said that “I raised my volume to match his”.
After that argument, Trump briefed Cassidy about the latest developments in the war and the briefing also included Vice President JD Vance and American envoy Steve Witkoff.
