Yesterday, Russian president Vladimir Putin said that his troops will continue to ‘press ahead’ with the ‘frontline campaign’ as planned and also dismissed a suggestion from Kyiv on mutually halting all long range strikes. 

His Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky called those comments ‘out of touch’ with regards to the feelings of the Russians facing long queues at petrol stations. Zelensky also mocked Russia’s military drive and claimed that the Kremlin had set and then put off 15 proposals in 4 years regarding the Donbas region.

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: What’s the Mutual Halt Proposal? 

Ukraine recently proposed a mutual halt on all long range strikes to Russia, but that was promptly rejected. Putin spoke about the proposal in an interview and stated “It is clear why this proposal is being made, because our counter-strikes deep into Ukrainian territory are much ​stronger, have greater impact and are, frankly, more destructive”, Putin said.

He then added that “Given their catastrophic shortage of personnel, the Ukrainian Armed Forces apparently believe this could be their salvation. But saving the Kyiv regime is not part of our plans”.

Kremlin’s Attacks on Eastern Ukraine Continue

Eastern Ukraine continues to be a prime target for Russian troops. Yesterday, attacks in Dnipro,  Zaporizhzhia, and Kherkiv led to 11 deaths, dozens getting wounded and infrastructural damage. But why this particular region? That’s because Russia wants to take over 4 regions – Donetsk and Luhansk in Donbas, and Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.   Among those, its troops have captured all of the Luhansk region and large parts of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. 

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: North Korea Loses 7,000 Troops on Warfront

The ongoing Russia Ukraine War has already caused manpower shortages for both Moscow and Kyiv. But North Korea, a Russian ally, has also lost close to 7,000 troops.

According to data from the Ukrainian military’s intelligence unit, the majority of the casualties happened in Russia’s Kursk oblast, with 50% of North Korea’s deployed troops either dead, injured or captured . Putin and Kim Jong Un signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement in 2024.

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Russia’s Deepening Fuel Crisis 

Putin recently admitted for the first time that Russia is facing a fuel crisis.  “Right now we’re observing a certain shortage, but it’s not critical”, he shared. Zelensky also remarked on the fuel crisis, saying “This is a direct consequence of the war. One of many consequences. It is also one example of how Ukraine responds – with precision, not through terrorism.”
