Russia Ukraine War Latest News: The Ukrainian military launched a crushing drone attack on several parts of Russia earlier today. Now the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has announced an extensive military campaign intended to ‘press the aggressor state’. 

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Ukraine’s New Campaign 

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky recently shared that he has approved an extensive 40 day military campaign against Russia. “I approved a 40 day operation by the Service to influence the aggressor state in order to press for an end to the war”, Zelensky said on Telegram. Through this strategy, Kyiv will hope to ‘influence’ Moscow and put an end to the war, now in its fifth year.

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Putin’s Meeting with Lukashenko 

Recently, Russian president Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko met in Valdai Russia to discuss  military cooperation and regional security in Eastern Europe. 

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the meeting and shared that no documents were signed and there are no plans for a press statement about the meeting. Putin and Lukashenko are close allies who regularly meet each other.

Zelensky’s Plea for Putin: ‘Take That Step Toward Peace’ 

Despite launching a new military strategy against Moscow, Kyiv remains open to peace. In fact, Zelensky even made a new plea to his Russian counterpart today. 

“Russia must get out of Ukraine with its war – we want no war. Ukraine has put forward proposals to our key partners, and Putin’s friends have also heard from us that a meeting is possible and that ending this war is possible. Russia must now take that step toward peace”, Zelensky said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).    

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Is Putin Open to Peace Talks? 

Previously, Russia wanted to continue the ongoing war with Ukraine. But now the situation seems to have reversed. In a press address earlier this week, Putin said “Russia, as has been stated repeatedly, is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine”. 

He then added that “It is ready to proceed on the basis of the agreements reached back in Istanbul – agreements which, I would remind you, were initiated at the time by the Ukrainian delegation”. With both countries now open and willing, the door for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine could reopen.  

Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Key Putin Ally Passes Away 

Sergey Ivanov, a former defence minister of Russia and a close Putin ally passed away at 73 recently. Like Putin, Ivanov also hailed from Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and was with him, while both served in the Soviet KGB security service. Moscow released a statement in his tribute which said “Vladimir Putin expressed his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sergei ​Ivanov on his passing”.
